BB Dupe...Works for me

Wayne Goss a.k.a. GossMakeUpArtist reviewed this little sponge on youtube some time ago, i was really curious about it since he stated it as a good dupe to the sponge from Beauty Blender. since i'm a big fan of the quick and easy foundation application with the BeautyBlender that also gives me a flawless finish, there was no chance that i would pass this affordable alternative

These Makeup Blending Sponges are only about a third of the price of the BB, and because you would want to replace your sponge every few months, it would be a nice saving if this cheaper dupe would perform as well as the original.

Borghese Brushes...my new love

I came across Costco’s new Borghese brush set. Now I have their last collection.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the brushes. Costco Borghese Brush Set includes ten professional brushes and a cosmetic brush clutch. This just so happens to also be the first brush set that Costco has released that includes natural hair bristle brushes. The brushes from this set are also full size and full length as each brush is super long in my opinion. The Ferrel of each brush is a cute chocolate brass color which coordinates nicely with the handles.

#100 Powder Kabuki Brush- this full size densely packed face brush offers full coverage with a wide range of makeup, such as mineral powder, loose powder, bronzer and blush, making applying powders to large areas super easy.

#101 Angled Contour Brush – This brush applies blush and face powders for effortless contouring and highlighting. The angled bristle of this brush first nicely into the contours of your cheekbones.

#102 Duo-Fiber Blending Brush – Nice for use with liquid or powder products. The two levels of bristles let you layer products for a flawlessly smooth application.

#104 Round Foundation Brush – more like a pointed foundation brush allows for precise application of liquid, cream or powder products in small but hard to reach places on the face like the corners of the nose and eyes.

#105 Concealer Brush – achieve target coverage with this brush. It applies and blends concealer precisely and in my opinion works great for primers and cream shadows as well.

#200 Eye Powder Fluff Brush – this extra-large eye powder brush is super soft and versatile. For some this brush will be too big for the eye area. However it will work great to buff out concealer or to highlight and contour the nose and cheek area.

#201 Eyeshadow Brush – flat-shaped brush with dense bristles that packs on shadows perfectly on the lid. This is another brush that for some may be to big but, instead of using it just for the lid, use it for the area under your brow if the brush is just to large. It would also work as an all over wash of color brush.

#202 Angled Eye Contour Brush, this brush is supposed to be great for applying and blending eye shadows but the beveled edge makes me like this brush more as a contour brush for the face. It works nice as an eyeshadow brush but for areas like the nose it works even better.

#203 Domes Smudge Brush, this densely packed brush is nice for applying and smudging color on the eyelid and lash line. Its a bit big and can be used to blend out colors in your crease area if desired.

#204 Angled Eye/Brow Brush this brush is perfect for sculpting/filling in your brows or applying cream, gel or liquid eye liner. I love the firmness and thinness of this brush.

A few (mostly natural) skincare tips!

Also mostly for my own reference haha. Hope they’re useful to you though! :>

Rice water is great for smoother skin. Wash rice in some water and let soak until the water turns milky white. Soak cotton pads in the water and apply to face, remove after 10 minutes and massage more rice water into skin. Rinse. OR! Use rice flour and some water to make a rice paste. Apply onto skin. The fine grains of the rice flour also helps to exfoliate!
Water and fruit is important for keeping your skin happy and clear. Remember to eat a lot!
Lemon juice + honey + plain yogurt = a great face mask! Mix the three together and apply onto face. Rinse off whenever you feel like it haha. I personally leave it on for about 25 minutes, or when the yogurt loses it’s coldness. If you used chilled yogurt it’ll be super cold and refreshing! If you have any left over it’s pretty yummy too. Ohohoho.
Use a cleansing oil and then your normal cleanser for super clean skin! The oil really helps if you didn’t wear any makeup. I tried this while I was in Taiwan, and it only took 3 days of using this method two times a day to have no more blackheads! I wanted to throw a party.
Clip your bangs up to avoid excess oil on your skin. I didn’t in the past and I would get a lot of pimples on my forehead. ; ~; Now I know better!
After rinsing your face, gently pat with a towel to get rid of the water. Never rub it with a washcloth/towel! It can be too harsh, even if your skin is dry.
Keep your makeup tools/whatever comes in contact with your face clean! Things like cell phones, pillowcases and glasses can become oily and then transfer their oil back onto your face. Keep them clean to avoid breakouts!

Doesn't Halle look absolutely stunning. I mean she is 40+ and this is exactly how i wanna feel in my forties..But it doesn't come easy i'm sure. So I've laid out a couple tips. Hope you find them useful..

1. Obviously, a better you on the outside starts with a better you from the inside. Good choices in food are critical. Try to avoid foods, sauces, dressings, etc. that are high in saturated fat, high calories, empty calories, sugar or any derivative, fried, etc. High fiber foods, fruits, vegetables, water, poultry, fish, lean meats. Eating red meat isn’t a sin, just eat it in moderation.
2. Drink as much water as you can, as this is a natural diuretic and flushes the body of toxins and keeps the plumbing working great. If you absolutely hate the taste (yes some think that water has taste) of water, then mix with a flavored low calorie powder mix (careful of the sugars, real or man made)
3. Exercise a day keeps your body in good shape. No matter how you do it, just do it. Walk before work or after work, walk in the park with the dog. Play outside with your kids. Exercise doesn’t have to be grueling, boring or a chore. Play catch with the kids. Garden, run the vacuum. Pilates, Yoga, dancing are all great ways to get exercise.
4. Easier said than done, keeping stress out of your life is pivotal. Stress causes ulcers, eczema, psoriasis, etc. Try to find one thing to laugh about during the day. Reach out to friends for a quick phone call. Smell flowers. Take a girl’s day/night and go to the spa for a mini-massage or manicure/pedicure. Check out the newest chick flick or comedy movie playing. Relax in a nice bubble bath or read a book. Even better, you could go to a comedy club.

Smoky eyes have become a classic party eye makeup look. The secret of this trend’s popularity is that smoky eyes can change your face dramatically, transforming the girl-next-door into a stylish diva.

Once you learn and master these application and blending techniques, the transition will take you only a few minutes. You can then have irresistible-looking eyes, even if they are not big or bright.

In this article you will learn:

how to choose the texture of your eye makeup.
which are the most flattering shades.
easy and mess-free application techniques.

Colour

You will need one black eye pencil, at least two colours of powder eyeshadow, and dark mascara to produce a fantastic smoky eyes effect.

The base colour should be a rich shimmery (not metallic) powder texture. Choose a shade slightly darker than your skin tone. You may choose neutral beige or grey colours for a soft and sophisticated look; or use a bright base for a dramatic look.

The contour colour must be a dark, matte, or slightly shimmery colour. Choose between dark brown, blue, green, or purple, depending on the colour of your attire. Use black with any outfit for a stunning effect.

You may add a third shade to your smoky eyes: a slightly shimmery highlight colour applied just under the eyebrows. This will enlarge the eye area and also soften any demarcation lines that remain after blending. Your normal facial powder can produce the same result if you are aiming for a more sophisticated look.

Choose soft black eye pencil or kohl for an enhancing all-around contour. Never use liquid eyeliner; it is for crisp lines, not the soft and sultry look we are aiming for here.

Black thickening mascara and stronger-than-usual eyebrows are in tune with smoky eyes makeup.

Application

Outline your eye contour with a black eye pencil, all the way around. Make the line thicker along the upper lashes.

With a brush or a sponge applicator, apply your base colour eyeshadow on the mobile eyelid and above the crease, about halfway to the eyebrows, blending slightly.

With a pointy sponge applicator, apply contour colour eyeshadow all the way around your eyes, blending it well with the pencil line.

Half-close your eyes and apply contour colour in the crease.

You will now need to define the outside corners of your eyes using a horizontal “V” shape. The position of the pointy end of the “V” will control the apparent shape of your eyes.

With a medium-sized soft round brush (you can also use a flat one, holding it sideways), blend the eyeshadows on the upper eyelid. With a flat brush, blend the eyeshadows on the lower eyelid.

Repeat your contour colour application with a sponge, as many times as needed to achieve a deep shade. Blend again with brushes after every application.

Apply highlight colour eyeshadow or facial powder under your eyebrows to ease the blending of the dark contour and add some volume to your eye makeup.

For an irresistible deep regard, outline the inside contour of your eyes with eye pencil. Use darker-than-usual eyebrows and lots of mascara to finish the look. Your eyes should now be smokier then ever before!

To keep your bright eye makeup in balance, try a stronger blush, and keep your lips pale with a light gloss application.

2011 RESOLUTIONS!

Hey all, so every year around this time we make all these resolutions, and i'm asking, DO YOU REALLY stick to it????I sure hope you do though..Let me know some of your beauty resolutions.

Here are some resolution ideas to stay fabulous:

1. Keep your skin looking good and well hydrated with a proper skincare regimen- Who doesn’t want fabulous skin that stays in great condition for the new year. Start off with an exfoliator and use it once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells which will allow your face to glow (For oily skin, use an exfoliator about 3 times a week). Make sure to use a good face moisturizer that won’t clog pores and also try soothing products like a toner to help condition the face too.

2. Revitalize your hair by keeping it healthy and hydrated- Say bye-bye to damage hair for the new year and say hello to healthy hair. Maintenance is key so make sure to trim your ends on a regular basis, and try a conditioning treatment or hair masque once a week. If your hair is badly damage with lots of breakage, go to a quality hair salon and let them take a look at your hair.

3. Eat well and exercise- This is #1 new year resolution that’s mentioned by the majority of the population every year and yet we never fulfill it. We never commit; but we need to stop doing that. It’s crucial to eat well and exercise for good health. Here’s a good place to start: Invest in a gym

4. Invest in a SPF sunscreen to prevent aging while in the sun- Don’t forget it helps to prevent skin cancer also so make sure to pour on the sunscreen whenever you’re out in the sun.

5. Drink plenty of water- I shouldn’t tell you why you need plenty of water; but, if you need a recap, check out my post on why drinking water daily is essential. I will say that drinking a liter or two a day would be sufficient for your daily intake.

6. Clean out your makeup- Get rid of the old and add in new products. You should update your makeup bag at least every 6 months. This can help you to stay current with the season’s new makeup colors and shades.

New Product!

The Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse foundation has finally arrived in Trinidad! This was a foundation that I heard about on youtube, And have been on the lookout for it since then. Anyway, it's finally here. I picked up mine at Pennywise.

It's an okay foundation. I am just not sure if it's something I would repurchase. Sometimes I am just lazy or just don't have much time to get ready so this product will come in handy on those days, I can just slap it on my face and go. I like how light it feels on my face and that it hydrates my skin. Also I was able to find a shade that's almost exactly like my own skin color as you can see in the picture above. It's hard to tell whether I have anything on my hand :) I would have liked it more if it had SPF and a mirror though!

NYX JUMBO PENCILS REVIEW

Milk - is a pure matte white colour. This is a must-have from the jumbo eyshadow pencils in my opinion as you can put any colour over this.

Cottage Cheese - is the shimmery version of milk, really pretty and perhaps more wearable if you don't like the stark white look.

Yogurt - shimmery peachy colour, really pretty and one of my favourites, goes with a lot of the eyeshadow colours that I like to wear.

Black Bean - matte black. If you going for smokey looks, this would make for a good base. Sorry about the swatch, it is more pigmented than that, there was some moisture in mine and it didn't apply the best.

Horse Radish - Shimmery light green, not very versatile, but still a cool colour.

Dark Brown - matte dark brown colour. I found this one to be more pigmented and smoother than black bean. I really like this one.

Pots and Pans - shimmery silver, this one almost has a duo colour in it, looks blue in some lights. Really pretty and I use this one a lot.

* A pencil that I would recommend that I do not have myself is French Fries, it's a shimmery brown, would really work well with neutral, everyday looks.

When I started with makeup, I was so into eyeshadows. I didn't know any better and I always wondered why my eyeshadow fades within 30 minutes of application. It has always been a problem. 1. Say no to foundation. When it comes to foundation, specialists say that it is better to avoid it during summer. Also having like 200 shades of nail polish! WOW!!! i've got some shopping to do..But aww its not in Sweet Trini and their website is still under construction. So what!!!We trini girls have a way of getting what we want....If we have to make a lil trip to New York ( yes there is a branch in Times square) Google IT!!!
